When Jonathan's mother sends him over the mountain on an errand, everyone assures him there are no bears on Hemlock Mountain, no bears at all. Jonathan repeats this to himself to keep up his courage. 

But there are bears on Hemlock Mountain. Jonathan meets them. This potentially scary story is told in a low-key, non-scary manner and Jonathan stays safe, of course.
