You can't get any more British than Paddington Bear. Even the queen wanted to have tea with Paddington, bad manners and all. Paddington gets himself into a lot of scrapes and tends to sticky fur. This is the entire boxed set. 

Very young children may enjoy these but the vocabulary level is high enough that older children will get more out of it--recommended for ages seven or higher. Be aware that you may wish to censor some expressions used in the book.
