This is a fun, old-fashioned story set in the farmlands of Hungary. Jansci is curious about the girl cousin being sent from the city to live with his family. She is not at all what he expects but turns out to be all right in the end, even for a girl. Jansci's parents are in for a surprise too--they'd been told she was weak and sickly but there is more to the story. 

I enjoyed the cultural experience of learning about some old Hungarian customs and folk stories. The concluding chapter mentions Santa Claus.
