It's a stressful school year for Holling Hoodhood who is convinced his teacher doesn't like him and who has a different religious affiliation than everyone else in the class. This means that while the rest of the class goes for religious instruction on Wednesday afternoons, Holling is stuck with his teacher. My sons, fourteen and ten at the time, loved listening to this story. I did too. What is not to love about a story of a boy who is constantly getting himself into scrapes and quoting Shakespeare.

A small amount of romance develops toward the end. There is also a small amount of objectionable language.
