Barbara Kingsolver

I found The Poisonwood Bible fascinating and thought-provoking. This satirical novel explores themes of cultural ignorance, colonialism and the evangelical missionary movement of the mid 1900s. The chapters rotate through the points of view of the four daughters and the wife of an apparently emotionally troubled preacher of the gospel. I don't often enjoy multiple points of view but this one worked. The voices of the various characters were clear and consistent. The literary quality is rich with vivid, original descriptions.
