When I was a girl, I received The Birds Christmas Carol by Kate Douglas Wiggins for Christmas one year. It's an old-fashioned story about an invalid girl's concern for the poor children next door. I loved it. And I still enjoy quoting: "It was such a short evening and such a pleasant walk, we thought we'd leave our hats to home."
