The story is that Jip fell off a wagon--presumably Gypsy--when he was quite small and no one even came looking for him. He works for a farmer and ends up taking care of a man known as a lunatic who becomes his best friend. When a mysterious man shows up in town, Jip wonders if he could be his father.
