Lassie Come Home by Eric Knight is one of the best classic dog stories. The Duke of Rudling wants to buy Lassie from the Carraclough family. She is the finest collie in all Yorkshire. The father refuses to sells her for awhile but does eventually because of financial hardship. The collie repeatedly tries to return to her boy and finally sets off on a 400 mile trip over unfamiliar territory to reach him.
